well i'm 15 yrs old and so far i've been thru most of the further treatment, braces since i was in 3rd grade, i'm now goin into 10th, i had a major bone graft in 5th grade, they took bone from my hip, i had another bone graft in 8th grade because the first didn't fuse right, i had a small surgery to expose a tooth that the cleft was supposed to make come down, this tooth finally came down this year and is on it's wait to being semi-straight, in the future i have the option of Orthognathic surgery, i think i'm gonna get it because i dont see the point of having all the other surgeries unless my smile is gonna be as perfect as it can be, who knows about Rhinoplasty, i dont know if i could walk around with a totally different face, a nose and lip are a pretty huge part of your face and i think havin the surgery would take my individualtiy away, cleft lip doesn't bother me enough to do that yet, but you never know

| I have had many of those surgeries mentioned, and I am only 18. I had rhinoplasty and it was because my surgeon said I needed it, and my parents didn't argue. I don't look completely different as many would think. Aparrently I had a pugged nose and now I don't. It's weird to think I had a "nose job," lol. My surgeon I used to have did the bone grafting surgery and I found out years later that it collapsed so I will have to have that again. My hole in the roof of my mouth is stil there my used to be surgeon tried to close it and it was unsucessful, I didn't like that surgeon. Now I am on a cleft palate team and they are awesome. I still have braces and my orthadontist is talking about an Orthognathic surgery. I am scared about that! I know God is on my side though. If anyone has had an Orthognathic surgery I would really like to know how it feels and what all is done. |

I'm having the orthognathic surgery this july (its april) - bit nervous, but looking forward to feeling a bit more confident. Not sure about the rhinoplasty, im hoping i wont feel i need it after this upcoming operation! Gonna lose so much money cuz im not gonna be able to work for about a month haha! Hopefully i should be all healed by september as im going to uni! Best of luck with your ops! x |

| Its been a long time since we have had chat on this topic but we have had a request from a young girl who is being scheduled for a Rhinoplasty operation. She would like to know what to expect when she wakes up ... if there is anybody who can tell about their experience it would be very much appreciated |

Hey George.. and co. I had the procedure when I was 20... let me say firstly it changed my life.. I wasnt as obliviously different to others after it.. makes walking down the street a pleasure now.
So my exsperiences.. firstly im now 24 so.. four years have past and my memory isnt the freshest of the proceedure itself.. pre-op was normal(-ish, first time in the Mater in the new franictic hospital system :( ). post op was swore as normal, nothing unusual there, around the nose mostly,.. though lots of blood to get cleaned around the front my face.. word to the wise have someone come in early next morning if you can to clean your lips so you probly wont be able to/nor want to open them on your own with out cleaning the blood on your face, this is so you to take fluids and to make a good clean post-op sheet.. im sure the nurses would do it, but they were quite busy when i was in and i was worried about going into post op shock, and they seemed to be preparing me for it putting me back on iv's and telling me i was running a fever.. I find water helps. Writing clean my face on a copy book in bold writing and calling them over didnt seem to work and also I was next to the nursing station.
After that i was great.. out the following day... had two splints up my nose and swollen cheeks, like this picture here http://bp3.blogger.com/_716A-dsn7_8/RejBBK7RQEI/AAAAAAAAABs/ld06vmfFcVQ/s320/Nose+012.jpg
So feeling all manly from looking like a price fighter things were fine, not sure being a girl thats as cool.., much pressure felt around the nose bridge and inside cheeks like a strong sinus cold, eating was messy as usual.. lots of icky blood and mucus less chewying and shallowing the better, but it only lasts a week.. it was about this time in the year.. So it was pretty nippy and cold weather hurts!.. so a nice big soft head scarf to wrap around your face Zoolander style recomended!! they brought me back in a week to remove the splints.. the pressure was gone when they did, results of the repair work toke a few months to form.. but was well worth it..
Lastly try not to get beat up in clubs doesnt help the repair!... just stay away from Wicklow in general and you'll be fine.
Hope that helps alittle. Best of luck! with it |

Hi Vaunsii, absolutely loved your post! Brilliant tip on cleaning face and having whiteboard to hand for the communications bit. Loved your ref to the 'manly look' and Wicklow! It's great! George

Thanks George. To Lauren.. had all that done too, your a bi lateral cleft too, so you've my nose.. haha. didnt do the Jaw fix one? just couldnt take another 2 years plus with my Jaw wired waiting for that to heal for me I was 20 still waiting for my life to start when they offered it to me, which is great of them.. and must say to those team members that do all the great work with all us kids now adults, thank you.
As for the Rhinoplasty mine didnt change my look at all!!! merely added enough tip to the point of my nose like about .5 mm. that it resulted in a reduced 95% occurrence of people calling me flat nose, but watch out some of my friends found out i had it done, now im the new micheal jackson saddly sorta fixs as i dance like Justin Timberlake. some people just love to hate, but it sure is nice to not get abuse near as much on the street.
If it doesnt bother you, you dont need it then, but it sure doesnt change how you look, just you fit in abit more to certain people. I think you've gotten that... this really did improve my life, but mine was just alittle tip, not a completely nose rework at all.
peace. |
